Re: Theos-World Finding germs of truth in a variety of places, not just in recommended places

It seems that you deliberately misinterpret what I mean. Let me add the
word "spiritual" before "truth" in what I said, because I was talking
about finding "spiritual truths" (and I think you suspected I meant that).
I said:
"So, my point still remains, you may consider CWL to be absolutely wrong
in every respect, but I respectfully disagree. Some people may actually
be able to find (spiritual) truths there, even if you are not capable
of finding them."
You said:
I agree, that they might be able to find truth there.
But that is also true when we talk about a
book on for instance "how to make a nuclear bomb"
No, I don't think a person would find many, if any, spiritual truths in
a book about making bombs, unless he was trying to delude himself.
Someone with a mindset like Adolf H might look at such a book and decide
that it justified his destruction of an inferior race.
I still stay with my original opinion. It is possible for some people to
find spiritual truths in places that you do not expect them to be found,
just like I have found them in places that I did not expect them to be
found, which is why I am constantly expanding my horizons, and NOT
limiting myself to the sources that I used to limit myself to.
But you do not seek to sell such books at the local theosophical
bookshop.
That is why I disagree with the policies, which
for instance are governed by TS Adyar.
You have your opinion, I have mine, and neither of us is going to
convince the other that he is wrong.
My opinion is that people like you who tell me NOT to read particular
sources are part of the problem, and not part of the solution.
By the way, I might add that I have not YET read any material by CWL
directly, except the excerpts that have been posted here. All of my
backlash against people on this list who are anti-one-view or
anti-another-view is based on the fact that I do not believe that you
are capable of determining where I am on my path or even to determine
which path I am following, and as such, you cannot tell me what I can or
cannot do. Likewise, you cannot state factually that one point of view
is 100% wrong except as YOUR OPINION.
So, why don't we drop the discussion. You don't like CWL. I don't like
people who tell me what I can and cannot believe. I'm like the person
who is MORE LIKELY to go see a movie because a fundamentalist like you
writes a letter to the editor and tells people, "Don't go see this movie
... it is an anti-my-point-of-view movie." (Of course, sometimes I
wonder if the people who are sending those letters to the editor aren't
actually working for the movie production company because they know the
fundamentalist protests will actually increase the number of people who
actually go see the movie. (Just like the Republican protests against
Michael Moore's movie actually increased the number of people who went.)
If the facts were as plain as you say they are, there would be no
dispute. The very fact that another group still sells the books means
that other people out there find spiritual truths there, even though you
don't.
(I assume you don't see one bit of good that Clinton did during eight
years in office because he lied about Lewinsky ... it's the same
principle ... He did good, but some people can't see it because they
fixate on the negative. I prefer to fixate on the positive whenever I
can, even with Bush, though it's getting hard because I'm seeing the
middle class paying larger and larger shares of the taxes while the
richest pay less and less.)
