Re: To Pedro & Anand: Serious Questions with Profound Implications

Daniel and All,
I can understand great difficulty which Daniel and many others face
because so many people claimed to have received letters from Masters.
In such situation whom to believe is a problem.
To solve this problem we need to consider some basic principles.
Firstly while studying Theosophy every student is supposed to use his
own intuition and intellect before he accepts and rejects some
principle. So writing may come from Masters or from those who claim
contact with Masters, every statement should be judged with our own
intuition and intellect. Nobody including Masters or those who claim
contact with them, including HPB, should be blindly believed or be
accepted as infallible authority.
Daniel gave long list of people who claimed contact with Masters. It
is possible that more than one people had contact with Masters
because Masters never said that HPB will be first and last person to
become disciple. On the contrary HPB gave great hope that just as she
made progress in occultism there is hope for all people in future to
contact them, become disciple and then Master himself, provided they
develop certain required qualities and made efforts in that
direction. So there are more people who made and will make true
contact with the Masters. There might be some people who made false
claims that they received letters from Master in order to benefit
materially. But whatever claims may be merit of teaching of any
author should be judged without prejudice that that person had
contact or not. Writing and speeches of Mr. C.W. Leadbeater and Mrs.
Annie Besant became very popular, they gave Theosophy acceptance
among thousands of people in the world because that writing and
speeches had inherent quality, power of truth and experience behind
their words. That made them popular. CWL and AB did not try to get
acceptance by claiming contact with Masters. Even if they had tried
to become famous by such claims ultimately people would have judged
them by their teaching. Among others Geoffrey Hodson perhaps had true
contact because his books show that quality which comes from
experience in occultism, power of truth, ligic etc. I don't want to
comment on other people who claimed contact.
Again receiving letters from Masters does not mean that recipient was
a great seer. Sinnett received largest number of letters but that
does not mean he was greatest. Masters sent letter to some people
with some other purposes not because recipient was great. In fact
true disciple is in contact with Masters in higher planes and
communication happens in higher planes, they don't need letters for
communication.
While reading a Theosophical book perception of truth depends on
reader's own inner development. If reader himself is evolved
spiritually and intellectually, has lot of good karma done with
unselfish motive in previous lives, then he will be able to
understand what is written in certain book is true or not.
Another important thing is every body is free to believe in certain
author or not to believe. So even if Daniel or anybody proves contact
was true or false, every body is free to respect any author.
So I would suggest that don't give much importance to whether certain
person had contact with Masters and if documents prove the contact
was true or not. Book of the author itself should speak what the
author was.
Best regards.
Fraternally,
