It had everything to do with it. When the Doctrine of Infallibility was
unveiled in the mid-19th century, a group of bishops who refused to
recognize it broke off, and declared themselves to be the Old Catholic
Church, to differentiate it from the "New" Catholic Church of papal
infallibility.
