Dear Friend:

I started out, as a youngster with reading ISIS UNVEILED, and
then to follow up on the words I did not know, I used the
THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY. From there I went to an intensive study
of H.P.Blavatsky's articles, and what she wrote in the KEY TO
THEOSOPHY (HPB) and The VOICE OF THE SILENCE -- then I tackled
The SECRET DOCTRINE, and have been at it ever since.

I would suggest to you that your read and study her teachings of
Theosophy -- she never claimed to originate them, or to draw them
like a patchwork of pieces from a discarded pile of old clothes
and then stitch them together into a "crazy-quilt pattern." Or,
to influence any one to come to the THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY. On the
contrary, she tried to get people who were interested to look
within their own makeup, and find out what their already existing
(but unknown and unexplored) powers and potentials are. She
continually said: "Seek and discover your own nature, and draw
your own conclusions."

Who in the last few centuries has ever written with the spread of
wisdom and knowledge she has made available ?

Taken as a whole, the statements she makes concerning the scope,
the history, the religious philosophies, the mythology and the
procedures that can be traced in invisible and secret Nature --
as exposed in Theosophy -- and as can be seen by Scientific
corroboration, as operating in and through our earth and Universe
ought to be of sufficient strength to make us wonder. One might
say of her, that she was one capable of transmitting the
specialization of generalism. And she constantly drew attention
to the fact that each of us had (and have) the same potentials.
Only we can activate them.

Are we to question today the existence of the Wise, as a Body of
Living Men, whose experience transcends that of mere time? As an
example, walk near a University, Look around. Can you discern
who are the Officials that work or teach there, and who might be
visitors? Do we expect the Wise to carry labels so they can be
delayed and interrupted in Their work? Usually the truly
important people who can sway the destinies of nations do not
carry labels, they do not advertise and do not expect to be
recognized publicly.

Can we account for a relatively un-scholarly tutored woman
securing enough knowledge to write the books and articles that
she did? Why did she constantly give credit to others, and
especially to an unknown band of Wise Men? Why was she able to
arrest the attention of a plurality of the truly intelligent and
wise? The professors, the academics, the thoughtful, cultured
and scholarly in the world of her time, and still, of ours? Did
she not constantly give credit to her Instructors, whom she named
the Masters of Wisdom? She made no claims for herself except
that of "scribe."

Yes, she was under constant attack, attack from those who were
spiteful and envious of the wisdom that she gave away, while
they, if they had only a few shards of it, were prepared to sell
it to the gullible and the curious. And, her sole defence was the
teachings she offered, and her complete candor.

As to her psychic abilities, She had them since childhood. Read
Sylvia Cranston's biography of H.P.Blavatsky ( Tarcher, New York)
THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF HELENA BLAVATSKY. As she grew to
Adulthood she conquered and mastered her psychic nature and made
it a slave of her will. In regard to public manifestations of
psychic strength and a mastery of its phenomena, she curtailed
them, and withheld them from public exposition, once that ISIS
UNVEILED was published and could speak for her.

She did not lose them, but did not use them to excite the
curiosity and the wonder of the great mass of people who had
heard of her, nor did she use them to attract people to the
THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.

She let ISIS UNVEILED and her writings in THEOSOPHIST, PATH and
LUCIFER do that. In other words she employed the powers of the
attentive and illuminated MIND to attract people to the wisdom
that was being offered. Nothing has changed since then.

At least we have Her writings to consult.

If the scope of ISIS UNVEILED and The SECRET DOCTRINE does not
satisfy you, then look for some corroboration:

Try: MAHATMA LETTERS: pp. 263, 203-4, 310-17, 466 top. if you
would like to know what the Masters thought of her nature and
efforts. Do any of us deserve that regard? Read the articles
that some of her friends and disciples wrote about Her in the
volume published after her death: IN MEMORIAM -- H.P.B. 1831 -
1891.

I would advise always to study the record and not rely on others'
opinions. Above all, study your own nature. The VOICE says in
one place: "...look inward, thou art Buddha." And I think if we
grasp the Fundamentals of Theosophy ( The SECRET DOCTRINE I pp
14-19, ) we are saying to ourselves: "I am also in my innermost
core a SPIRITUAL BEING. My main effort now is to spiritualize
the "personality" -- the "mask" I now wear."

We are all in this together, my brother,

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dallas wrote, " It has been said that he who speaks of seeing
and meeting
with the Master thereby loses touch. My judgment would be that
if, as is
said, Leadbeater had stood "face t face with the 'Great
Initiator,' it would
never have been spoken of by him, and no other would have known
the fact.
Leadbeater sought to be recognized as a great teacher...any one
claiming
Adeptship is not an Adept, and this is in the very nature of
things...."

Leadbeater never claimed adeptship. And HPB didn't shrink
from letting
it be known she was in communication with the Masters. How about
all her
psychic feats? Was she seeking to be recognized as a great
teacher? In
fact, I think she was. She was trying to establish her
credentials, so that
she could bring Theosophy to an unbelieving world. And what
about the
Masters themselves? If they're not allowed to tell anyone who
they are, we
wouldn't even know about them. How about their supernormal
feats? Were
they just showing off?
