Interestingly, HPB seems to be saying that certain persons and classes of
society over-react and even become infuriated at the idea that some
theosophists hold the harmless belief in the existences of very wise and
holy personages, called Mahatmas.

She says they actually exist, for her it was a question of personal
knowledge, while for others it was that of faith.

Sounds reasonable.
