This *proves* nothing except that the Theosophical Movement is indeed in
decline. I will point out once more, since it seems a constantly overlooked
point, that in her E.S. materials HPB said EXACTLY when the next impulse for
the movement would be given, and that was between 1975 and 2000. Since
Krishnamurti died in 1986, and since he was well into his work long before
that, we simply cannot be faithful to HPB's predictions and retain any one
like Krishna held up as the Messenger to be in fact that.
Why does it matter that we are faithful to HPB's prediction? Because
everything in Theosophy today is based on the understanding that she was a
verifiable Messenger from the Lodge. If any one understood and could speak
for what the next cycle held, and was HPB and her teachers. To let go of
HPB's guidelines, which we can only imagine she gave out for our protection
and safekeeping from claimants, leaves us open and confused to every putative
leader who comes along.
How many have been put forward as THE Messenger this century: Krishnamurti,
Alice Bailey, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, Raghavan Iyer, Benjamin Creme, etc.
etc. etc. I've even heard that George Lucas is this cycle's messenger!!
(After all, his first Star Wars movie came out in in 1977, but began work in
1975!)
The evidence in fact is not a plurality of Messengers to choose from, but no
one at all. No single individual has come along with anything like the
training and public eye-catching and occult demonstrations that HPB had. I
prefer to think that (a) the lodge has sent out its workers, on time, and we
have not noticed them or (b) this cycle the lodge is working behind the
scenes through no single individuals. The former in fact seems more likely
to me.
