Dear Michael and friends

My views are:

M. Sufilight says:
Why? Will you be kind and elaborate on your views?

How would you promote altruism while opposing a tyranny like the one you mention?
Why not at first of all seek to make people understand that Altruism is first and foremost among all and everything?
Egotism or superficial Altruism or pretended Altruism is not Altruism, is it?

_______

The method of non-violent resistance is effective, and that it has a way of disarming the opponent. It exposes moral defences, weakens his morale, at the same time it works on his conscience.

If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolute night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness, in a descending spiral of destruction. The chain reaction of evil must be broken.

Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.

And people are demonstrating these days:

As H. P. Blavatsky said:
"ENQUIRER. Do you mean to say that prayer is an occult process bringing about physical results?

THEOSOPHIST. I do. Will-Power becomes a living power. But woe unto those Occultists and Theosophists, who, instead of crushing out the desires of the lower personal ego or physical man, and saying, addressing their Higher Spiritual EGO immersed in Atma-Buddhic light, "Thy will be done, not mine," etc., send up waves of will-power for selfish or unholy purposes! For this is black magic, abomination, and spiritual sorcery.

Unfortunately, all this is the favourite occupation of our Christian statesmen and generals, especially when the latter are sending two armies to murder each other. Both indulge before action in a bit of such sorcery, by offering respectively prayers to the same God of Hosts, each entreating his help to cut its enemies' throats. "

"As a Society, we carefully avoid them, for the reasons given below. To seek to achieve political reforms before we have effected a reform in human nature, is like putting new wine into old bottles. Make men feel and recognise in their innermost hearts what is their real, true duty to all men, and every old abuse of power, every iniquitous law in the national policy, based on human, social or political selfishness, will disappear of itself. Foolish is the gardener who seeks to weed his flower-bed of poisonous plants by cutting them off from the surface of the soil, instead of tearing them out by the roots. No lasting political reform can be ever achieved with the same selfish men at the head of affairs as of old. "

Is this wrong?

I find this to be one of the deplorable pieces of philosophy ever devised. Are we to wait for the perfection of the hearts of Monsanto before opposing their tyranny?

Surely one can do both try to bring Men's hearts alive and also stand for the rights of Man at the same time.

Annie Besant gave Mohandas Ghandi the appellation "Mahatma" and he took much inspiration from Theosophy. was he unwise to act as he did? Did not his political actions combine with working on the hearts of people?
