Dear Anand,

I addressed this issue more extensively elsewhere but, in short, my understanding of the TS R&R stipulations is that the GC as the governing body of the TS is also a policy making body, while the President is just executive officer of this policy. It is not meant that candidates for the office of the President will have their own competing visions or policies. Therefore, when nomination process finish the voting procedure immediately follows; there is no room for election campaign. On the other hand it is obvious that election campaign can not go on during the voting process - it is against all democratic standards.

But, as said by Roberta, let us look into these matters more profoundly. And I hope that we are slowly reaching a critical mass in the recognition that knowledge and respect of the proceedings is essential if we want to establish fraternal relationships within the Theosophical Society, that a forum on the level of the entire TS is needed to address these problems in a peaceful, profound and creative manner.
