Perucker was wrong. Ma-tsu was right.
What does the progress of the Theosophical Movement have to do with
obtaining occult knowledge?
The higher self knows everything, according to HPB. The whole trick
is asking the right question, and then meditating on it for a period
of time until you get the answer. That's how Einstein found the
occult truths of matter-energy equivalence, relativity, quantum
nature of light, nature of gravity, etc.
Maybe all Perucker meant was learning such truths instantly, without
self searching, mind experimenting, or meditating on the "secrets"
hidden in the SD -- as Einstein did (and probably, also, Perucker.)
-- see: http://leonmaurer.info/einstein.html
All the "hints" leading to ALL the occult truths are already in the
Secret Doctrine. All it takes to uncover them is one's "intuition"
-- as HPB pointed out innumerable times as she was writing it.
The only reason anyone might need a teacher is if they expect to gain
a particular siddhi quickly -- without properly practicing Rajah
yoga, as taught by Patanjali.
Only the gurus who are hungry for disciples, insist that we need them
to learn from. Otherwise, what would they do with their accumulated
knowledge? ;-)
