Thanks for the detailed analysis. I hope we get feedback and new ideas from
everyone and hopefully those in the leadership positions in all the
countries look at them with an open mind so we will have a vibrant
membership in 21st century.
Historically, if you look at the past, in every spiritual organization which
is upcoming and growing, you will find young and middle aged leaders. TS is
no exception. HPB, HSO and all the early leaders were in their middle age or
early 20s and they gave the prime of their lives full time and that is how
the we saw the growth of TS in the early years. Look at Buddhism,
Christianity, Hinduism . The Founders -- Lord Buddha, Lord Jesus, Shri
Shankaracharya -- were not old men who took upon themselves a second carrier
after their retirement from their full time jobs. They accomplished a lot in
very short period of time.
When you look at the current TS around the world, many of the leaders are
really old people. The National organizational rules have also been fine
tuned and crafted so that it is very difficult for any younger person to
move up in leadership.
Unless everyone at the national top leadership sees this fundamental issue
-- we are yet to see any of them publicly address them (If any of you have
contrary info, please come and post them here) -- and really start
addressing them in the long term interests of TS and Theosophy -- not in
their personal interests of holding on to their positions of power and
prestige -- TS will continue with the current maintenance-mode for the
foreseeable future.
Current election also brought to the forefront the tactics and techniques of
electioneering conducted just like all democratic politicians do, which has
not done good in enhancing the image of TS. With Internet, younger
generation who may be interested in theosophy are going to Google and find
out all that has taken place and there is no way to hide them under the rug
because of the nature of Internet and archiving of the message base. Also,
democratic operation and unnecessary and unwanted secrecy do not go
together, and as we were warned in the 1900 letter about its consequences,
it is time for everyone in the leadership inquire with an open mind and
share what they think and what they plan to do -- with all of us in a very
transparent way.
Fortunately, today it is easy and free and immediate with Internet. I wish
they all start using Internet as a dynamic multi-interaction media instead
of trying to replicate the old print media mindset.

PS: It is a pity that we have to get our election results thru public
maillists like this and Anton's website. While members get solicitation for
money for support of TS activities in sections, these results should have
been immediately and widely distributed thru direct e-mail and in the
national websites. Looks like, either the sections are not geared up or do
not want to change the old print-media based system and members have to wait
several weeks to find out the results. It is real pity.
