TS - International Election - Nomination from American Section

Dear Brother/Sister:

International Rule 10 says:

"Each member of the General Council, who is a General Secretary, shall be
entitled to make three nominations and shall consult his Governing Body
before making nominations."

So it is clear that the National President in the USA had the opportunity to
make three nominations, and before nomination(s) was to have consulted the
US governing body which is the board of directors.

I have discussed in previous messages, the issue of lack of transparency and
secrecy. Members do not know how many nominations were made Betty and who
the nominees are and what was the result of the consultation with Board of
Directors and how was the consultation done. Was there a formal meeting of
the board of directors and was the question of nomination formally proposed,
seconded and voted and what was the vote? Unanimous or closely divided?
Members know nothing, except that Betty Bland, as a GC member, is one of the
nominators of John Algeo, period. Did she make any other nomination? What
were the views and decisions of the Board of Directors?

Legally, there is no need to tell anything to the members. But, what is the
problem in being open and transparent? What is there to hide?

Leaders want members to trust them and when they need money for their
projects they send solicitations and expect members to trust them and send
donations or bequests. In this situation is it unreasonable to ask for
transparency?

With what has happened in the current election and the role of Internet as
an information dissemination tool, business as usual is not going to work.
At a time when the membership is going down hill (as a % of national
population), transparency and multi-way communication cannot but help. If we
continue in the current path of lack of transparency, any organization
related problem can only take the organization further on the downward path.

Wiser leaders need to do some quick thinking and embark on quick actions.
