Esoteric School under direction of Master....even direction given
by physical letter....!!

Carlos made a good point on where the "authority" comes
from to start an esoteric group or the like, as in the
Crosbie case - when he said 'not from outside authority
but from the heart" - although that would be a hard one
to prove or verify.

In trying to understand this assertion by both Jake and Carlos,
I tried to rewrite the essence of the above in the following
declarative sentence:

=======================================================
The "authority" to start an esoteric group comes "not from outside
authority but from the heart".
=======================================================

Now I am not too certain where the above "idea" originates from.

I find the idea somewhat vague and if the basic idea is valid then
about anyone could form an esoteric school based on "authority ...
from the heart."

But I find it instructive to compare and contrast this above idea
given by Carlos and agreed to by Jake with what we know about the
founding of the Esoteric School by HPB and the continuation of the
school after HPB's death during Mr. Judge's lifetime.

In the extracts below the reader will see that neither H.P. Blavatsky
or Judge were shy about stating in no uncertain terms that the
founding and direction of the school was guided by the Master Morya.

And in the 1891 event described below, the Master Morya even
precipitates a physical note! I have seen a facsimile of this note.

This seems to be a far cry from relying simply on "authority from the
heart"!

Below are the excerpts from the relevant documents:

Documents of 1887-1888:
=====================================================
In early 1887, H.P. Blavatsky wrote to Countess Constance
Wachtmeister the following:

"After a long conversation with Master....either I have to return to
India to die . . . or I have to form ... a nucleus of true
Theosophists, a school of my own ... with as many mystics as I can
get to teach them...."

In the "Preliminary Memorandum" issued by H.P. B. in Dec. 1888, one
finds the following:

"The real Head of the Esoteric Section is a Master, of whom H.P.
Blavatsky is the mouthpiece for this Section. He is one of those
Adepts referred to in theosophical literature, and concerned in the
formation of the Theosophical Society. It is through H.P. Blavatsky
that each member of this section will be brought more closely than
hitherto under His influence and care if found worthy of it."

Documents of 1891

Bruce F. Campbell in ANCIENT WISDOM REVIVED writes:

"It was assumed by some that Mrs. Besant would assume leadership of
the Esoteric Section, but Judge had other ideas. He suggested that
the Council of the Esoteric Section be dissolved and that its powers
be delegated jointly to Mrs. Besant and himself as joint 'Outer
Heads' of the action. At the same time, a series of messages appeared
mysteriously that were to strengthen his hand. The first, which he
reported he discovered in the cabinet in H.P.B.'s room, carried the
impression of a seal with the letter 'M' and appeared to be a message
from the Master Morya. Several days later, at a meeting held to
decide the future of the Esoteric action, Mrs. Besant found among her
papers a slip which read in red pencil: 'Judge's Plan is Right.' The
signature and 'M' seal was there as before. Judge's plan for joint
Outer Heads was adopted unanimously."

Dallas Tenbroeck also outlines the same events:

"...the General Council Meeting of the I. G. of the E. S. in London
on May 27th 1891...followed H. P. Blavatsky's death...Annie Besant
stated that at that time, a 'note' on which the Master had written:--
'Judge's plan is right,' fell out of the packet of letters she had
tied, and which had been in her sole possession, until she had
brought it, herself, to that meeting. This related to Mr. Judge's
suggestion of having two Co-'Outer-Heads' for the E S to carry on its
guidance...."

Document of 1894

=========================================================
W.Q. Judge writes in "By Master's Direction"(Issued Nov. 1894.):

"...I resume in the E.S.T. in full all the functions and powers given
to me by H.P.B. and that came to me by orderly succession after her
passing from this life, and declare myself the sole head of the
E.S.T. ...Hence, under the authority given me by the Master and
H.P.B., and under Master's direction, I declare Mrs. Annie Besant's
headship in the E.S.T. at an end."

========================================================

Notice in none of the above instances does HPB or Judge rely
on "directions...from the heart" but instead on direct communications
from the Master Morya including even a physical communication from
the Master....
