Thanks John this looks good as well.
It's quite amazing how much the characters of Horus and Jesus are so
similar.
What's even more amazing is how this seems to be ignored by
theologians.
It just shows the power of propaganda and how myth can easily become
historical reality in peoples minds.
Of all the TV documentaries I've seen on the historical Jesus none of
the points Tom Harpur has pointed out are ever presented. (not that
I've seen at any rate)
I think for me it highlights the importance of historical criticism
many times the actual facts can be devastating and thus seen as too
difficult to bring up and discuss.
This should never happen in the theosophical movement as critique is
so important to maintaining that things don't become dogma.
Thus the need to make sure we don't mythologize HPB and the Mahatmas
(or any theosophical teacher) and turn them into deities who could do
or say no wrong.
Better rather to study the propositions of theosophy in an open
minded and constructively critical way than become devotees of any
teacher or blindly follow and beleive a teaching.
Fundamentalist Christianity is so dependant on a historical Jesus
that it can't embrace the idea of the Cosmic Christ otherwise the
whole idea of vicarious atonement falls flat on its face.
