In Occult matters HPB alone can answer and she is not here to do so, so our
speculations about her reasons may fall short of reality. If she
"tolerated" someone for a long period of time, it may be because she saw in
their character the possibility of change and improvement. In my experience
in life dealing with others there are many cases where restraint and hope
temper action. In short we cannot make decisions concerning others'
motives, unless we too are Adepts, and have the power HPB so evidently had
and has of knowing the innermost motives of others.
In reading HPB'S LETTERS TO MR. A. P. SINNETT [and MAHATMA LETTERS ] I see
several instances where HPB [and Masters] indicates she was well aware of
the actions, words and thoughts of those connected with the THEOSOPHICAL
SOCIETY - using occult means. These were not contradicted by Mr. S. [ See
in "HPB's Let. To A.P.SINNETT.," pp. 171-2, 313, 130-1, 91-2, 174-5, 120,
221-2, etc...]

I wish to draw your attention to the History of the THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT.
100 years after the SPR first published the Hodgson report (1885) they
withdrew it and discredited it fully. This was because it was inaccurate
and faulty. W. Carithers spent many years amassing the necessary
information and convinced the SPR that the report was unworthy of their
standing and impartiality. [ Mr. D. Caldwell has all the details on this.]
The THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY IN AMERICA, Pasadena published the Harrison
Monograph on the subject. It is "on line" and can be read there.
Vernon Harrison:
H. P. BLAVATSKY AND THE SPR: An Examination of the Hodgson Report of 1885,
$16.95 cloth. (Full-text online) [ tstec@theosociety.org ]

Separately I reprint HPB's ALCHEMY IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY, as this
clearly gives a view of her knowledge of chemistry and science. Of course,
one needs only go to the SECRET DOCTRINE for fuller information.
[See the S D INDEX under: SCIENCE, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, ENERGY, FORCE,
ATOM. The MAHATMA LETTERS can also be searched for similar information.
Best wishes,
Dallas

Well, if it is all true, how HPB tolerated him for 7 years and
