Re: Theos-World question on 1st editions of Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine

There was in 1888 an edition published in New York, and another in
London. The one published in New York is considered the true first
edition, and is bound in blue cloth. The London edition is bound in
gray cloth. Both are two volume sets.
I knew a Los Angeles ULT student (now deceased) who had a ULT edition of
the Secret Doctrine which he took apart and interspersed blank pages so
that he could take notes on them, and then rebound the whole thing into
four volumes. He did the same thing with a ULT printing of Isis
Unveiled. I suspect that you have his copy of the SD. If you ever
decide to sell it, I would be interested in purchasing it for
sentimental reasons.
Thanks
Jerry

Dear all,
I have a bibliographical question concerning the first edition of
Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine. As far as I am aware, the first edition was
issued in a dark blue cloth binding, with the TS symbols in gold printed
on the front, and text in gold on the back.
But I have an edition apparently published in 1888, issued in 4 leather
bindings, TS symbols on the fronts, and inside printed on thin bible
paper, with the text on the pages, which are intersparsed with blank
pages for personal annotations.
My question is: is this a special 1st edition? Is it a first edition? Is
anybody aware of special editions of the 1st?
Kind regards,
