Dear Regina,
That captures in a sentence my approach to Cayce as well as to HPB.
The subtitle of Edgar Cayce in Context is The Readings, Truth and
Fiction. SUNY inserted a colon in the subtitle making it The
Readings: Truth and Fiction. Some of my meaning was lost in that
because it approaches the implication of truth VS. fiction which is
not what I meant. There is undoubtedly a great deal of fictional
material in the Cayce readings, about Atlantis, ancient Egypt, Jesus,
and various other past-life information. They also convey a great
deal of truth: literal truth about holistic health advice, spiritual
truth in the religious commentary, psychological truth in the dream
interpretations, etc.
Truth and fiction in a spiritual tradition, as in the stories told
about the Theosophical Masters, are not in simple opposition nor are
they congruent. They are in a dynamic interaction that IMO in both
the cases of Blavatsky and Cayce is very complex and intriguing.
Cheers,
Paul
