Sri Ramakrishna and the Vedanta Society had a similar idea of Theosophy. Sri Ramakrishna and his disciples were solely into advaita bhakti, and saw no need for Theosophical ideas. That is wonderful, as far as it goes, but bhakti alone can become perverted and sterile. Swami Vivekananda was lost after his Master's death, and died at the age of 39. In my opinion (THAT word again), we can't just leave it all up to bhakti (love), but must make Theosophy a living, breathing set of ideas that are able to change the minds of mankind. Theosophy is no "paper tiger" to me, but a real stimulus to thought and understanding and action.
