You mentioned "the path of return" (nivritti marga). It is said that
on the "path of outgoing" (pravritti marga), the essential keynote
is "to take, to grasp", while on the path of return it is "to give."
Perhaps the spiritual path is a way of life in which opinionatedness
gives way to understanding, insight and wisdom. Perhaps.

Quite so. And if you were to embrace this 'understanding, insight and wisdom' you may see that excluding someone from the list for 'opinionatedness' effectively throws them back into the wilderness from which their struggle to find this ' understanding, insight and wisdom' is so much more difficult. Hardly the act of someone who espouses the notion of universal brotherhood.

The point I am wanting to make about excluding someone from this list is that forced separation from anyone is counterproductive in that we who force the separation then have to do that much more work to regain that which we have lost. Are we not here to help each other however we can and whenever we can?
