Seems I can't help thinking that, where certain kinds of 
spiritual matters are concerned, red herrings might 
often come in real handy. I suspect that God invented 
red herrings just for that handy reason. Not that red 
herrings can't easily enough be invented by us lesser 
beings, but I think SOME read herrings (as in the case 
of the Mahatmas) seem real special to me, making me 
respect such people so much more than if they were 
just regular, herringless, more average types, (ie, in light 
of ... whatever).

PS I wonder if there are books out there on the history
of red herrings... Might make for interesting reading
