Leon, I was also thinking along the lines of how one
can expand his/her consciousness according to Jung. If
I can draw on an analogy that came to me last night.
My friend and I are in the middle of a computer game
where we have reached a really difficult level. We
tried for up to two hours to complete this one level
but to no avail. Then we managed just to break through
and pass. Now, this morning, I have played that level
five times and on all five occassions I completed the
level with ease. What was once an impossible task I
can now undertake with my eyes closed. 

To me this is similar to Jung's description of how one
develops and expands consciousness (again, I still
don't have my references so I can't give any direct
quotes with confidence - hopefully by Monday). In a
nutshell, and from what I gathered, there is a world
of infinite possibilities out there but it is veiled
in the collective unconscious. We are only limited by
the capacity of our collective and personal conscious.
When we realise these unconscious elements we become
conscious of them and hence we have expanded our
consciousness. In the analogy I have given above, the
ability to complete this really hard level was always
present in the collective unconscious. I was not aware
of this ability for one reason or another. However,
through time, and via my own intuition or will, I was
able gather information, clues if you will, as to the
nature of the skills required to complete this level.
Once I was conscious of these skills there was no
turning back. My consciouness had been expanded for
all time and I am now a more "complete" being for it. 

Simple explanation, I know, but can you see where I'm
heading with this?
