Dear Laura,
Judge was a wonderful example of one who is able to "be all things to
all men." His writings are full of hints and information about how to
deal with negative assaults, and he certainly dealt with many of them
in his lifetime. One thing he said that always stays in my mind, is
that in an argument, our best approach is in our own mind to take the
place of the other, to see the subject from the other's point of
view. In one sense of it, all points of view are valid, given their
perspective. But if we can enlarge our own perspective to include
more than our own opinion, our own bias, we can begin to be tolerant
of others, and to understand that amazing diversity that is humanity.
If we accept, after all, that all life is essentially one, then all
our brothers and sisters represent different facets of the one truth.
Thanks for your comments.
