IMO Leadbetter is just as he was characterised in "Madame Blavatsky's
Baboon." I think that HPB had as little to do with him as possible.
Now, what Besant had to do with him is another story.

She was said to be under his mesmeric control. He was her swengali. I
don't know, was not there, but do know that she was/is power crazy
and everytime I read (in ODL) how Olcott helped her and said all
those wonderful things about her powers as a speaker and her wisdom
etc. I get mad. Of course all this happened after HPB died. But here
was a woman (red Annie) looking for roots and she found them in the
perverted (according to Western morays) boy-lusting of Leadbetter.
Now, she did do a good thing: she found Krishnamurti, the boy wonder,
and tried to make of him a god. But he rejected it, you know the
story. As for Leadbetter: I know he was into little boys, and the
astral world, but they (the Adyar TS) apparently have made of the
dude a god. I understand that Germans are very tolerant of
homosexuality. Does this play a role here in their attitude toward
Leadbetter?

I hope you are speaking only for this group. As I was involved with a
TS group in Chicago, and they were strange too. They did not study
HPB's teachings!! They were mostly a group of highly intelligent,
articulate, African Americans. But they were atheists in a great way
and believed in the Buddhists and TS notion that "there is no such
thing as a personal God or deity." But I enjoyed my stay with them.

PS: I think (Leadbetter along with most original TS members) he too
became a Satsangi. Oh well...
