Doss, tahnks for your further information and comment, especially that you
brought arguments (independent whether they are pro or con to my own view)
and not cheap defamation.
Would be a good thing to have Gandhi's words from the Harijan paper in the
original, would't it?
Has anyone access to Indian newpaper archives? Perhaps the Adyar TS HQ has
one issue?
For those who can read German I have the German source, it appeared in the
series "Vom Gestern zum Morgen", Ner-Tamid-Verlag, Munich 1961, pp. 5-10.
I think Gandhi was a level-headed man and was a lover of the truth.
Later I post more on the subject.

Frank: Thanks for the post. I searched and found a very comprehensive
article by Prof. Ramakrishnan which is very informative about Mahatma
Gandhi's views. One needs to keep in mind that his approach based on
non-violence resulted in India getting Independence from Great Britain, in
spite of the hands off approach taken by the western powers in the matter
of Indian Independence.

It is most interesting to note from the article that there were intense
lobbying on Gandhi which did not change his views for 20 years.
