Frank: Thanks for the post. I searched and found a very comprehensive article by Prof. Ramakrishnan which is very informative about Mahatma Gandhi's views. One needs to keep in mind that his approach based on non-violence resulted in India getting Independence from Great Britain, in spite of the hands off approach taken by the western powers in the matter of Indian Independence.

It is most interesting to note from the article that there were intense lobbying on Gandhi which did not change his views for 20 years.
