Excellent thoughts. The ancients had a phrase for it:
ex nihilo nihil fit (from nothing nothing comes.)
Only in Christian theology is the universe assumed to
have come from nothing, and that was based on a
mistranslation of the OT known as the Septuagint.
There is no ex nihilo creation in Kabbalism, and Max
Mueller argued based on linguistic considerations that
it was not in the original Jewish Creation Myth
either.

That does not, however, exclude the possibility that
Being is Protean and has changed shape over the course
of eternity.
