Dear Andy:

Theosophy starts with the concept that everything in NATURE is RULED BY LAWS
which protect the weak and the strong alike. NATURE is a synonym for the
DEITY and the UNIVERSE.

Every being without exception is actuated fundamentally by a MONAD -- The
Monad is an indissoluble compound of three balanced elements: SPIRIT -
wisdom, Matter- form, and, MIND - the power to perceive and to choose.

Further, all beings derive their uniqueness from one SOURCE : the UNIVERSAL
SPIRIT Thus the “atom” is brother to the “Man,” and to the greatest of
“Galaxies.”

For every action there is an underlying choice. This power to choose is
focused in humanity where the mind gives INDIVIDUALITY.

EVIL is simply explained as the breaking of Nature’s protective LAWS and the
inflicting of any pain or suffering on any other creature.

If this is applied universally in the process of EVOLUTION you will find
that the animating PRINCIPLE ( SPIRIT ) although seemingly fractioned among
the countless milliards of beings in the whole grand Universe, tends towards
brotherhood and the give and take of true VIRTUE, all the time.

The fact that we live in a world of confusion where vice is rampant
indicates that somewhere along the line the BREAKING OF LAW became a matter
of deliberation and a SELFISH PLEASURE for some perverted beings.

SELFISHNESS and MEANNESS created EVIL.

Universality and benevolence will redress this trend. But the effort has to
start with each individual once that he or she realizes this fact and truth.

There are few who are able or willing to perceive this. Most oppose LAW
because they fear it restricts their FREEDOM TO CHOOSE. Actually it does
not, because the lubricant to FREEDOM is the perfect protection afforded by
NATURE -- which is universally sensitive to all its many immortal
components -- KARMA and Justice and Fairness are the lubricants.

Hello,

I am reading all your contributions with great interest.It seems to me
though many people already know what evil is and discuss from there.

My question is because I still do not have such a preconceived notion:"What
exactly is according to Blavatsky the essence of evil?"
