Dear Chuck:

Re: use of drugs and alcohol, by H P B and others

Seriously, the answer is plain. Also the Occult rule is: DO NOT.

True Occultism and alcohol ( or any drug taking) do not and
cannot go together.

I mean Occultism of the highest and most spiritual type -- not
the sorcery-like psychic and selfish power-mongering type of
nonsense. [ "All for me -- nothing for you." - type.]

And, H P B was such an Occultist. But why believe me? Study her
writings and see for yourself, if you have the patience and the
perseverance. Her writings make it plain exactly what her
resources and knowledge were/are.

You will of course find references to this (using alcohol, drugs,
etc...) here and there in theosophical literature -- as in the
article PRACTICAL OCCULTISM -- H P B LUCIFER April 1888, and
the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) (p. 262) they are available at
http://www.blavatsky.net if you or others who are serious about
getting to know Theosophy want "chapter and verse."

Best wishes,

Dallas

In a message dated 01-12-12 17:15:47 EST, you write:

<< As for whether Blavatsky had an occasional drink or
not, I cannot help wondering: So what? >>

Yeah. That strikes me as the sort of thing that might have
bothered some
stuffy old Victorian but certainly would not matter to civilized
people.
