<< In the SD, HPB writes about:

(a) An Omnipresent, Eternal, Boundless, and Immutable PRINCIPLE on which all
speculation is impossible, since it transcends the power of human conception
and could only be dwarfed by any human expression or similitude. It is
beyond the range and reach of thought -- in the words of Mandukya,
"unthinkable and unspeakable."

Notice her words "Eternal" and "Immutable". How do these two terms
relate (if at all) to the word "immortal"?>>

This "principle" would appear to be a cosmic principle -- one that everything
in the universe shares in, but not particularly anyone's "soul." I read it
rather to mean that, however mortal humans (and all other creatures/objects)
are, there is a spark of this cosmic principle in all. Thus, looking "down"
on the universe from the cosmic perspective, NOTHING is immortal, only the
one principle.

It is pretty clear also that the Atman HPB discusses is not an individual's
essence, but merely another name for this Cosmic principle, considered as
such when looking "up" at it (from the individual point of view). The Atman
APPEARS to be a so-called "individual ray" of the Absolute, but I defy anyone
to explain HOW the Atman and the Eternal Immutable Principle are different ...

On a slight (Buddhist) tangent, what I quoted earlier today from THE SUPREME
SOURCE would appear to be saying exactly what HPB says in the quote Daniel
gives above from the S.D. -- although the lama dares to compare the Immutable
to a mirror (while HPB says it is beyond similitude).
