I was thinking that the Jiva concept of Jainism is really much closer to
that of the Monadism in Theosophy than it is in most of Buddhism... I agree
with Jerry in this that Buddhism focuses largely on the illusion of the
self and the abandonement of craving ... Jainism also has a very direct
way of assaulting the worldly ego by standards such as limiting personal
possessions...sorry no computers... and stressing going within ... a new
and developing movement called Preksha Meditation is beginning to be felt
that in some ways is similar to Vipisana style in Theravadin circles...
Jainism really champions the ahimsa concept much more thoroughly than does
Buddhism... both religions I think bare strong similarities... I myself
having been a theosophist in the late sixties took the refuge in the Buddha
the Dharma and the Sangha... and remain very sympathetic, however am
finding Jainism to be even more to the point...
I'll shutup now Dallas!
