Thanks for all you have written about the Mahatmas - and meditation.
I have heard the same kind of remark before, as the one reproduced above,
but that time I think it was the other way round. But either way, there is
something uncomfortable about it.
Because of all the red and blue "ink" flying around - sorry to use a clumsy
analogy -
but it offers a way of looking at the Mahatmas as
centripetal and centrifugal forces, and although students feel more
attracted to one than the other, it is difficult to say that one is greater
than the other.
Can we say that blue is greater than red?

"Knowing this the blessed one uttered this solemn utterance. "When the real
nature of things becomes clear to the meditating Bikshu, then all his doubts
fade away since he has learned what is that nature and what its cause. From
ignorance spring all the evils. From knowledge comes the cessation of this
mass of misery, and then the meditating Brahmana stands dispelling the hosts
of Mara like the sun that illuminates the sky."
Meditation here means the superhuman (not supernatural) qualities, or
arhatship in its highest of spiritual powers." (End of ML 10)
