Jerry,
In my opinion, this is the kind of convoluted thinking that not only creates
the problem but keeps us wedded to it. The cause of social inequity, OF EVERY
KIND, is the unequal distribution of the wealth, pure and simple. Pointing to
any other cause is the usual blind and defense of the hardened self
interested greed monger. It is not now, nor has it ever been, a questions of
numbers. It is, and always has been, a question of empathetic sensitivity and
direction of WILL. The human drama that plays out in real time on the
physical plane, is a reflection and a result of human will, Consciously or
subconsciously. I am not talking about fiscal wealth especially, but also,
the wealth of a societies knowledge base (removal of ignorance) and genuine
opportunity. In all social systems to date, whether it be royal, capitalist,
communist, dictatorial, etc., true equal distribution of the opportunity, for
everyone to rise above their present status, IS NOT, in the interest of the
prevailing power structures. I do not pretend to know how to resolve this
most serious human dilemma (other than the obvious one of more spiritual
development). However continuing to offer this unthinking, unfeeling response
to one of this generation most pressing spiritual problems is to guarantee
its continuation. Only one thing is certain about people that offer these
kinds of observation regarding humanity's social dilemmas, and that is; THEY,
are never the people they are making the solutions for. THEY, have never been
hungry, shivering with fear and hopelessness. THEY, always speak from a point
intellectually removed from the EXPERIENCE they are referring to. Your
closing statement makes my point:

Short term solutions are precisely what is required when the need is
IMMEDIATE. If we don't do that, there will not be any one to enjoy the
benefits of the long term solutions. Cant you see that? Or are you really
suggesting that the answer is to let them die?
