Interpretations on HPB etc

Nov 26, 1998 04:27 PM
by Alan Wilkinson

I received the "Rationale of TCC" through the post a few weeks ago and
thought it was applicable to the recent discussion on the views/meanings of
the original Theosophy books by HPB. It reminded me of Jerry's and Mr
Tenbroeck's ways of applying the philosophy.

2nd paragraph:

"The word examine is defined as 'inquire into the nature or condition; look
closely or analytically.' This process involves exploration and thinking.
One's understanding of yesterday may be changed today like the title of the
book Expanding Horizons. Theosophy or wisdom religion can only remain vernal
and relevant as long as individuals are free to interpret and reinterpret
the teachings according to their relative understanding. Without this
freedom, dogma would dominate and we would be in danger of submitting to
literal interpretations as is the sad history of church religion."

I like both Jerry's and Dallas's view as they provide a strong foundation
and flexibility to *move* as they see fit. I think both views are correct to
each person. It does look like we need all people so we can see 'truth' from
all 'relative' positions and how it is used in each other's life.

Thanks, Alan

(BTW, I'm making more progress. I've enrolled upon a correspondence course
from Pasadena - I'm really looking forward to it.)
