As a child, I put my hand over a lighted candle, thus coming to know
flames burn. I couldn't read yet .... but the source of knowledge was
right in front of me. The alchemists used to say that the "philosophers'
stone" was trampled under foot by everyone every day - because they
couldn't see it.
