Re: theos-talk "The Theosophical Community" forum is closing down

One of the areas where TS has been badly behind the curve is the use of
Internet as a tool of communication. Many of us remember the still-birth of
the TSA mailing list years ago. When the ning site was setup, initially it
was open and later it was restricted to members. When this was done, many
were wondering what was the objective of keeping it closed.

Openness is the life blood of Internet. Membership has been going down
South with no end in sight. The membership dues has been increasing, with
all activities centered in Wheaton. There is also the frequent solicitation
for donations.

Until Internet is effectively used as a tool of communication -
multi-directional - one is unlikely to see expansion of the awareness of
theosophical doctrines thru TS as well as expansion of membership.

I am glad that at least there are alternatives in the Internet for
theosophists. We have theos-talk and theos-L and theosophy.net ning
site. All of them are independent in that they do not receive any financial
support, directly or indirectly, and not under the control of any
organization and are run by voluntary volunteers. The shutting down of the
theosophical community will help participants to move to these forums for
their discussion.
