Re: theos-talk SHANKARACHARYA & RITUAL WORSHIP

Even today, in many parts of India, offering of animal and chicken
sacrifices to 'gods' is a tradition and those who do it are scared of
stopping this tradition because they are scared that 'gods' will become
angry and bad luck will fall on the devotees. I recall hearing or reading
accounts of how Shri Shankaracharya was responsible to put an end to human
sacrifices. The tantrik rituals may be the remnants of the rituals that
preceded these sacrifices. There is however, no doubt that Shri
Shankaracharya brought great reforms to India, the effects of which we may
be seeing even today. Just speculating.
