While I agree with your take on the publishing and business issues, the
larger issue is the changing landscape of the publishing industry. Any
publisher has to keep up with the changes or else they will be left behind
and event will over take them and hence it is better to be at the leading
edge of the changes.
Take for example the newspapers. While their role and function may be
different, most of them are shrinking and many have gone out of business. I
stopped buying newspapers and have not been missing it for quite some time
since I get most of the news on Internet.
The question of publishing model which fits with the objectives of
theosophical organizations need to be examined because they are different
from any other business venture. The case of unpublished HPB discussions is
unique in that the delay of 12 to 13 years is totally unjustified in an age
where the original material could have been scanned and made accessible
years ago especially because the âinvestmentâ in the original documents is
zero for the custodian.
I think it would be worthwhile to examine the priorities - reaching the
theosophists or business side of the publication - and make sure the errors
committed are not repeated.
