No, WW2 brought down the English colonies. They just couldn't afford them
any more.
Ghandi succeeded because he was able to use the British fundamental
weakness, a belief in law, against them. Stalin would have just killed him
outright and then wiped out anyone who followed him.

glossing over what he accomplished - he brought down the British colonisation
of the world, starting with India, the jewel in their crown.
