How Shri Shankaracharya setup Democracy for Sanyasis

Shri Shankaracharya, incarnation of one of the greatest Adepts, had many
accomplishments in his brief life. Little known and perhaps most far
reaching in its effects was his organizing the sanyasis in India. They are
those who go in spiritual search giving up all possessions and relationships
in life and so are independent in that they are not dependent on anyone or
afraid of anyone. It was Shri Shankaracharya who organized them in a
democratic setup with democratically elected leaders. It is reported that it
is because of this setup that British did not follow the example of Spanish
in converting their colonies to Chritianity. British were terrified of the
power of the sanyasis, because the masses adore and respect them, that they
kept their hands off on religious matters.

With this kind of historical background to the strength and power of
democracy, does it not make sense that TS Presidency was setup to be elected
by members world-wide. Any one who thinks otherwise, should go and meditate
on this so that commonsense would prevail.
