I have experienced this extraordinary attitude on occasion 
in the Adyar Theosophical Society whereby previously 
friendly, approachable people, female and male, upon 
reaching high office, have become aloof and seemingly 
disconnected from the broader membership.    

Some have even become arrogant and contemptuous towards 
the general membership, as well as towards those who do 
not support their position on any given subject or issue.

These traits are of course the trappings of power which is 
perhaps one of the reasons why so many senior members of the 
Adyar Society and others do not involve themselves in this 
forum.  

Whilst the pressures of time and office can excuse avoidance 
of trivial issues, those that have been raised relentlessly 
here by Adyar TS member Ramadoss over many months have been 
anything but trivial. 

Truth, openness of dialogue and respect for all should be the 
very essence of theosophy and its institutions if we are to 
practice "brotherhood" and avoid unnecessary misunderstandings 
and grievances .

It seems some in the Adyar Society hierarchy need to recognise 
the value of dissenters, as did Madame Blavatsky, rather than 
perceive them as irrelevant or even dangerous irritants. 

We could perhaps all do well to remind ourselves of these words 
from Desiderata:
"Speak your truth quietly and clearly; 
and listen to others, 
even to the dull and the ignorant; 
they too have their story."
