I doubt that the internet would have changed much. If anything it might
have made things easier for Hitler. Goebbels would have felt right at home with
the net and no doubt would have made good use of it.

There is a very interesting news item I found today. Let me quote:
"The spread of information on the Internet has given the world a new tool to
forestall conflicts, Nobel literature prize winner Jean-Marie Gustave Le
Clezio said Sunday.
In his Nobel lecture to the Swedish Academy, the 68-year-old Frenchman said
an earlier introduction of information technology could even have prevented
World War II.
"Who knows, if the Internet had existed at the time, perhaps Hitler's
criminal plot would not have succeeded - ridicule might have prevented it
from ever seeing the light of day," he said."

MKR ADDS:
Closer to home, was the last election of International TS President. There
was a well orchestrated campaign to defeat Radha Burnier under the pretext
that she is sick mentally and physically and hence should the defeated. This
was led by many well known GC members. Members who did not have access to
Internet were fed with this inaccurate and potentially misleading
information. Even after three well reputed and honorable physicians from two
continents (one of the physicians is a well known and highly regarded
National Secretary) certified her fit, this professional confirmation of her
health was not passed on to the members who did not have access to Internet.
Even the candidate they were supporting kept silent and took no action to
set the facts straight.
It is my belief that but for the Internet and dissemination of the facts to
those members who had access to Internet around the world, the effort to
defeat Radha Burnier would have succeeded.
In addition, on the heels of the election results, a quartet of those who
wanted to defeat Radha Burnier sent in a proposal to quickly disenfranchise
all the members world-wide and also change the rules in a hurry so that a
handful of GC members can seize control of the Presidency and make the
president a puppet. The proposal was top secret known only to GC members.
Even long-time workers at Adyar and Olcott were kept in total darkness and
they learnt it from Internet forums outside the control of the
organizations. The proposal was to be approved in the December meeting. The
coup would have been an easily done deal to the surprise and shock of all
members around the world.
It was on Internet, the above secret plans were revealed and members came to
know of the secret plans being cooked behind the backs of members.
It is my belief that but for the Internet and disclosure of the secret plans
on Internet, the plans would be very close to being successful.
Looking at the above as well as the statement of le Clezio, Internet is a
tool provided by the Guardians of the Humanity to prevent disasters and to
counter the work of the Dugpas and Shammars in opposing the progress of
Humanity. I think, as Theosophists, we need to take the clue and use
Internet, in our own little way, for the best interests of the progress of
Humanity.
