Dear friends,
As if was not enough the Indian Section being attacked, some fellows mentioned here in their e-mails the Greek Section. Its my duty to say some words.
The first group ever founded in the Theosophical Society was in the island of Kerkyra in Greece in the year of 1876. The Grece Section exists since 1926.
The International by-laws of the T.S. states that a section to be considered a section need to have 70 members and 7 active lodges. Currently the TS in Greece has numbers which are above the requested in the International by Laws.
Now when talking of a Section that exists for so long. There are no exceptions. Every country has its own challenges and problems which members must deal with. The members of the T.S. in Greece work and are working very hard to create a stronger section.
But even having apparently low number of members in term of percentage Greece has more members than India. So to say:
India Population:1,129,866,154
Greece Population:10,706,290
India has around 13 thousand members and Greece 140.
The gross result is:
Greece has 0.0014% of population as members
India has 0.0010% of population as members.
So again there are no exceptions.
Erica
