Re: Theos-World Re: YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO READ THE CONTROVERSIAL NEW PROPOSAL & EXPRESS YOUR OPINION

I have see it here in Greece. Here also council members are elected by the members as well. Division of positions like: vice-president, secretary, treasure are according with the number of votes every candidate had. So to say first more voted for the council will be the vice-president, second more voted the secretary, third more voted the treasure. This actually works fine.

John Algeo, Wies Kuipers, Kim Dieu and Betty Bland for long time have been working and dedicating themselves to the T.S.. We must respect that.  But their proposition to remove the members' right to vote was a fiasco.

Furthermore would be deeply unfair to give one vote only for a Section with more than 10 thousand members and 1 vote for a Section with 100 members. This equalization is non sense.  Of course we cannot forget that was a proposition draft, not a final draft. By any event, there were many gaps on it, and the arguments were not solid.

Actually most officers in the TS aren't so much elected as appointed

with the approval of the members (or the gen. council or whatever).

After all - have any of you seen two contesting candidates for a

function like the secretary, the chairperson or general secretary in

any of your sections or lodges? I sure haven't. It's one of the

reasons this last election was so exciting: we actually had a choice.

It's also one of the reasons I don't want the general secretary's to

choose the next president: I don't think any of them truly represent

the members.

Don't get me wrong: In this mess it might easily be forgotten that

these are the people that keep the TS going. I'm very glad someone

does, because in my opinion the TS still has a part to play in the

spiritual evolution of humanity.

I really am thankful to John Algeo, Wies Kuipers, Kim Dieu and Betty

Bland for helping in keeping this thing going. (I write that knowing

full well it's often a thankless and full time job)

However, that just doesn't mean I want them to decide for me. Nor does

it mean I don't care about the TS. And this whole things shows that a

lot of other people care about the TS as well.

As far as me getting any specific official role in the TS (other than

being one of the webmasters of the Dutch TS website) - we will just

have to leave that to the future. There are important things going on

now and as members we have to show our general secretaries we care.

I just hope people are mailing their general secretaries how they feel

about this issue and voting in my poll.
