I think it is best to be 'up front' with new students.  I believe the time has come to draw a line in the sand although co-operation between the various philosophies could exist.  I for one would only follow the Blavatsky tradition.  Having two masters always seems to lead to a two headed monster trying to eat the other's head off.

Perhaps you could start an Internet Membership for those interested in theosophy.  Only problem I can foresee is the division between the purist blavatskians and the Leadbeater/Besant philosophy.  I am still waiting for the Melbourne Theosophical society to get their own website as there are some very fine minds there.

Hi Cass. I don't see that as being much of a problem because NEW members would not know about the divisions that currently exist, or the various philosophies promulgated by ancient theosophists until after they have become somewhat conversant with today's theosophists and their publications. So as I see it, we each have a role to play viz a viz what we choose to say to the new seekers. We have a responsibility to keep our own prejudices and filters out of their way. Just point them to a theosophical library. Let them read and make their own judgements.

For over a decade, I have been repeatedly writing about the huge opportunity
that Internet presents for TS and Theosophy. The most elementary and easiest
and most extensively used application is e-mail. (Even people who do not own
a computer and Internet, use e-mail from public libraries.) This can and
should be very effectively and inexpensively used for communication between
organizations and their members around the world.

The indications based on the crumbs we have seen during electioneering for
the International President shows that many of the top elite around the
world are extensively using e-mail for multi-way communication between
themselves. But the same has not happened between the organizations and the
membership. Organizations are still clinging to the print media, and the
communication is one way and news items which are too late are old news.

Since most of the leadership are quite old, we can understand their not
being able to fully comprehend the immense opportunity that Internet has
presented itself to the world, which includes TS. If they do not wake up
soon, we may have to wait until they are replaced by the current generation
which has grown up with computers and Internet, which may take several
decades since all the systems have been fine tuned so younger leadership
cannot quickly move up. This will be a great missed opportunity.

Here are a few quotes from a recent news article:

– Robinson is now20106 - that's 35 years older than McCain - and she began
using the Internet at 98, at the Barclay Friends home in West Chester, Pa.,
where she lives. "I started to learn because I wanted to e-mail my family,"
she says - in an e-mail message, naturally.

– Why do most of us - 73 percent of Americans - use the Internet? The top
three reasons are, in order, e-mail, informational searches, and finding a
map or driving directions.
