Anand,
One of the accepted meanings of the word joke in the English language
is "a ridiculous thing, person, or circumstance." Your "joke" has
ridiculed the constitutionally elected and re-elected President of
the TS (Adyar) by suggesting that she is clinging to that office
until death. Your joke also occurs while a world wide election is
taking place within the Society.
In the current election, Mrs Burnier received more than the required
number of nominations from members of the General Council and was
therefore declared a valid candidate for the position of President.
In doing so, she has submitted herself to the final decision by the
members. Unlike other organizations of a similar nature, the TS
extends to members the right to choose, in a direct election, the
Society's President.
Mrs Burnier does not cling to that "chair" in her office. She was
placed there by the will of many thousands of members world wide.
