THE SILENT FLASH

Friends,

Sacred things are essentially beyond words.

Practical experience tells us that words can only suggest reality and they should never replace it in our consciousness. Yet words often hide reality under the very pretext of revealing it. It is because of this that we have the concept of “silent transmision” in Zen Buddhism ; a transmmission independent from scriptures and words.

As to “The Light of Asia”, that favourite book for HPB, there we can read:

“OM, AMITAYA! Measure not with words
Th’ Immeasurable; nor sink the string of thought
Into the fathomless. Who asks doth err,
Who answers, errs. Say nought!” (1)

In order to understand Theosophy, one must open room in one’s daily life to contemplate higher realities which are beyond thought.

Regards, Carlos.
