D.M. Bennett, In the News

D.M. Bennett, In the news

Carlos mentioned D.M. Bennett, and in
the Sept-Oct, Nov-Dec, 2001 issues of
Wheaton's "Quest" magazine (on-line)
there was a good bio article of him,
by the author of a recent biography.
He's refered to in the MLs, was raised
in a Shaker community (no sex or
procreation - which is why they died
out), was a "free-thinker" and editor
of the "Truth-Seeker" publication, and
became a member of the TS. He was being
aided by the teachers. (It seems today
that theosophists have a much more
cultish or sectarian attitude of what
is ACTUALLY included in the theosophical
movement.)

"Scrap Metal for Kids"
This was the humorous headline in
a local paper. A percentage was being
donated to a children's fund. Recently,
locally, the Knights of Columbus held a
good-hearted fund-raiser for a kid with
leukemia, or something such, and raised
$10,000 - which was another local story.
When you think that this big effort only
paid for maybe a half-day in the hospital,
you wonder when people are going to wake
up that there is something seriously wrong
with the world and the medical establishment
in the US. (Does the word "theives" mean
anything in this connection?)

Last week or 2 weeks ago, in Germany,
$500 million of knock-off imitation designer
shoes were seized - mostly tennis shoes.
They were all destroyed. 'Still quality
shoes, even tho knock-offs. Do you think
a 100,000 pairs of quality tennis shoes
could be used in poverty-stricken Africa,
India, Mexico, or whatever? They could
have been defaced with spray-paint or
something, and donated to a charity
organization - not much effort involved.
So here is where the heart of big business
and government is, in spite of all the
politically conscious PR-crappola in the
Nike ads, and the like.

My last posting here got heavily
edited. One wonders what "vested interest"
did that? After all, this is only a
discussion-site, for crissake, and not
a politically loaded society organ or the
like! Hope this makes it through.
