As far as I am concerned they are only looking for fame and noteriety. If something isn't broken, don't fix it.

I find it
very disappointing that the TS in America
has edited this very important attempt
out of its 'mission statement' and hope
they will change things soon.
It sounds like they took one of my jokes too seriously!
Those of us who have been around for a while probably remember the great
"brotherhood" fight back in the '90s. There was some talk of changing the
wording of the First Object which created such a stir that two board members
actually threatened to leave the Society if they did. (I never did learn which
two.)
Anyway, at convention, somebody got the bright idea of having people discuss
this matter and the discussion got very very very heated, to the point where
some of us feared that a fistfight might break out over brotherhood. Well,
sometimes the only way to toss a salad is with a hand grenade so I threw one,
saying, "Why don't we just get rid of the Three Objects."
That so shocked everyone that they stopped fighting and went back to being a
nucleus.
But I never dreamt that they would ACTUALLY DO IT!
