  I am saying the below from reference books, contrary to Gary Barnhart is requesting.
   
  I think that J. Krishnamurti has taken this theme to a great extent. 
   
  He uses the term mind in more than one sense. This has to be seen in the context.
   
  Blavatsky's use of the word mind and its slaying should mean in this context the thought based processes.  A well-known Upanishad says that the mind is the source of bondage and liberation. 
   
  Even Patanajali refers to Chita vriti nirodham, i.e. ending of the states of mind, but should be refering to those that cause bondage.
   
  Thus, Blavatsky deals with the aspects of the mind that are the cause of bondage.
