HPB'S LAST WILL

ACCORDING TO H.P.B.’S LAST WILL

Dear Friends,

I remember these words by H.P. Blavatsky, in her 1885 Last Will and Testament:

“I desire that yearly, on the anniversary of my death some of my friends should assemble at the Headquarters of the Theosophical Society and read a chapter of Edwin Arnold’s ‘Light of Asia’ and ‘Bhagavad Gita’.” (1)

Well, this is not the headquarters of the Theosophical Society.

Yet she left her body in May 8 th, 1891 – at 2:25 pm local time in London, 115 years ago. So, here are a few words from both books suggested by her.

ONE

In the “Bhagavad Gita”, Krishna says on the law of universal justice:

“I produce myself among creatures, o son of Bharata, wherever there is a decline of virtue and an insurrection of vice and injustice in the world; and thus I incarnate from age to age for the preservation of the just, the destruction of the wicked, and the establishment of righteousness.” (2)

TWO

In “The Light of Asia”, we can read these words on the way to bliss:

“If ye lay bound the wheel of change,
And no way were of breaking from the chain,
The Heart of boundless Being is a curse,
The Soul of Things fell Pain.”

“Ye are not bound! the soul of Things is sweet,
The Heart of Being is celestial rest;
Stronger than woe is will: that which was Good
Doth pass to Better – Best.”

(....)

“Behold, I show you Truth! Lower than hell,
Higher than Heaven, outside the utmost stars,
Farther than Brahm doth dwell,
Before beginning, and without an end,
As space eternal and as surety sure,
Is fixed a Power divine which moves to good,
Only its laws endure.” (3)

Om, shanti,

Carlos Cardoso Aveline.
