On the other hand, why is it that after I leave the site, I have that cookie
left on my machine, just benignly sitting there doing nothing (I hope),
since I am not involved in counting any longer.
I don't need it on my machine, whether or not I am going back to that Page
or not.

I tried the link again, and it takes me to the homepage for the people that
made the movie. Although there is mention of $10 to buy a copy of the
movie
on DVD, there is also a link that says <WATCH MOVIE>, and when clicked on,
it starts the movie playing in a popup. (There is no charge to view the
movie online.)
In that main page, there is mention of a "statcounter.com," but that
appears
to be a link that provides a visitor count for the webpage, showing right
now, for instance, "Visits: 60,717". Many websites may use a free visitor
counter; I don't think there's anything ominous about it. I have Norton
Systemworks 2006 on my computer, and it does not indicate any problems
with
it when I visit the page.

Shortly after I tried the link, The program "Spyware Doctor" popped up a
window saying that a malicious cookie had been detected and deleted. I
went
and checked, and it is named STATCOUNTER.COM - at least that is the
"domain".
It has been disabled on my computer now. Perhaps it is only sent to
computers in certain areas?
The original link was "redirected" to a site that had a line that was
easy
to read, and another line that blended in with the background and was
impossible to read, although there was some message pertaining to a $10
charge. But I terminated the window too fast to determine what the offer
was
all about.
